You can almost have some type of holiday lights
up year round. Well I did say ALMOST...
Pretty soon I'll have to add an addition on
my home just to store all of it! But that's OK!
My two favorite holidays are Halloween and Christmas. I use a lot of string lights in my Halloween and Christmas displays.
I do however try not to ignore the other holidays such as Thanksgiving, New Years and Valentines Day.
When it comes to Halloween and decorating another one of my passions is pumpkins.
I TRY to grow them so all I have to do is
mosey over to the garden, pick them and start carving and
decorating. It's a lot of fun! I just wish I had some of
those ghosts and goblins come trick or treating so they
could enjoy them too! I live pretty far out in the
country so we usually don't get ANY, bummer...
One of the nice things about holiday lighting is
that you can decorate inside and out. I think it's
great that they make so many different types of
outdoor string lighting in the festive holiday colors.
The blacks, purples and oranges for Halloween make it
so easy and cost effective for almost anyone to add
holiday spirit to their home.
A favorite Halloween piece of mine is this stained glass
pumpkin.
Well, that's a little about Halloween, now moving
on to Christmas!
Christmas time is so joyous and I really believe
it brings out the best in people. Now I know that
everyone does not celebrate Christmas and that's fine,
but for me personally it's that special time of year
that I want to be around my family and friends and
celebrate the season.
Which takes me into christmas lighting.
I usually start to decorate for Christmas right
after Thanksgiving. I haul out all of my christmas
lighting and sort through it while hoping I've packed
it away in an organized manner. It's great if you can wrap your holiday lights around a spool of some type when you store them, that way they won't be all tangled up when it comes time to use them again.
It takes me a few days between decorating the inside and out to get it all up.
One of the decorations I use are my lighted window decorations. You can have them accent the inside of your home or mount them in the window facing out.
My tree doesn't go up right away though, usually the
second week in December. We put up a real tree every
year and I don't want it to start losing its needles
before the season is over.
Every couple of years I switch to a different color or style of
christmas tree lighting. Then I'll use the lights from the previous year in a different spot in the
house or outside.
I love to decorate outside and I have a good
variety of decorations, but not like I've seen from
some people. (not that I wouldn't like to...)
I think it's great when you see yards that are just so beautifully done and have thousands of lights.
If you would like to share your lighting ideas please contact me directly. I would love to share them on this site.
Every year I try to add at least one item
to my outside decor. The outside lighting pieces usually
cost a bit more (the bigger animated ones) so if you add
a few at a time it doesn't hurt the pocket book as hard.
I remember as a child our family would all pile
in the station wagon and go ride around all the
local neighborhoods looking at the holiday lights.
Now those are special memories!
